Pastoral Manager – Year 8
Location:
Birmingham
Hours:
8:15am – 4:15pm, Monday to Friday
Contract:
Full-time, term time
Smile Education is working in partnership with a large and well-established secondary school in Birmingham who are looking to appoint an experienced Pastoral Manager to support the Head of Year 8 in managing the Year 8 cohort.
This is a fantastic opportunity for a strong pastoral professional who is passionate about supporting young people and maintaining high standards of behaviour, attendance, and wellbeing across a busy secondary school environment.
The Role As a Pastoral Manager for Year 8, you will work closely with the Head of Year to ensure students are supported both academically and personally. You will play a key role in managing behaviour, monitoring attendance, and providing day-to-day pastoral care to ensure students remain engaged and supported in school.
Key responsibilities will include:
Supporting the Head of Year 8 with the management of the Year 8 cohort
Dealing with day-to-day behaviour incidents and implementing behaviour policies
Monitoring and improving student attendance and punctuality
Providing pastoral support and guidance to students
Liaising with teachers, parents, and safeguarding teams where necessary
Supporting students with social, emotional, and behavioural needs
Helping maintain a positive and structured learning environment
The Ideal Candidate We are looking for someone who:
Has previous experience working in a pastoral, behaviour, or inclusion role within a secondary school
Has worked in a large secondary school environment and understands the pace of the role
Is confident managing student behaviour and attendance processes
Has excellent communication and relationship-building skills
Is calm, professional, and able to handle challenging situations effectively
Is passionate about supporting young people to succeed
