What skills and experience we're looking for

An exciting opportunity has arisen for us to appoint a new or experienced leader to grow and enhance our large and successful mathematics leadership team. The successful applicant will lead a whole‑school mathematics initiative focused on teacher development and student interventions to improve the provision and outcomes for HPA disadvantaged students at GCSE and their subsequent progression to mathematics and further mathematics post‑16.

This role has 1 day per week of dedicated leadership development time.

The mathematics department at Swanshurst is a highly successful one; students make above average rates of progress. We would expect the successful candidate to teach mathematics to the full ability range at key stages 3 and 4. We also offer Level 3 mathematical studies, A‑level mathematics and A‑Level further mathematics so can provide the opportunity for KS5 teaching.

The successful candidate will work closely with the head of department and senior leaders to:

  • Identify target students for school‑led interventions and monitor and report on their participation in activities, progress and outcomes, with a focus on closing gaps for disadvantaged students.
  • Manage a programme of additional curriculum support and enrichment for target students.
  • Coordinate a tailored programme of professional development, drawing on programmes provided by external organisations.
  • Manage a programme for students studying A level Mathematics and Further Mathematics to ensure they have access to high‑quality tuition support to develop the skills needed to access A/A
    * grades and perform well in university assessments.
  • Ensure that the mathematics curriculum addresses the needs of high prior attaining and disadvantaged students.
