Job

Overview

Teacher of English (Full‑time) September 2026 Start – Are you looking for a teaching role where you can devote time to educating international students with the highest aspirations? Our student body is diverse, inspiring, and ever‑growing. Consequently, an exciting opportunity has arisen to teach English at the Worthgate School. The English Department offers a rich and academically rigorous curriculum across a variety of programmes of study, including GCSE, PRE, A‑level, IB Diploma, A‑level and University Foundation programmes.

Courses include GCSE English Language (AQA), IBDP English Literature, and academic English pathways that prepare students for university study in the UK and internationally.

As a teacher, this is a fantastic and truly unique environment in which to work. Class sizes are small, and students are highly motivated to learn and ultimately progress to excellent universities. Applicants who particularly relish teaching literature at an advanced level will therefore find the Worthgate School a hugely enjoyable and fulfilling place to work. English is central to our students' academic success, and many go on to pursue degrees in literature, law, media, humanities, and related disciplines at leading universities worldwide.

Consequently, we are not only seeking a teacher who can harness the international context of our classrooms and foster an inclusive environment for discussion, interpretation, and critical thinking, but also someone who can drive engaging co‑curricular opportunities for students and staff.

We expect teachers to be involved in our super‑curricular activities, known as Electives, where current offerings include Debate Society, Creative Writing, Journalism, EPQ, and Public Speaking. Applicants should also demonstrate a strong commitment to their professional development. Worthgate offers excellent, fully funded opportunities for successful applicants to undertake NPQ qualifications (Leading Teacher Development, Senior Leadership, NPQ SENCO) in partnership with UCL, with multiple teachers enrolling each year.

As part of the wider CATS Global Schools group, the academic team also benefits from cross‑school collaboration and events, and staff are encouraged to develop and contribute to these professional networks.

Person Specification
  • A subject specialism in English Literature and/or English Language, with a degree in a related discipline.
  • Experience teaching first‑language English, with the ability to teach English as a Second Language being an advantage.
  • Experience or willingness to teach GCSE English Language (AQA) and IBDP English Literature.
  • A critical understanding of developments in English studies and curriculum areas.
  • Enthusiasm to identify and embrace extra‑ and co‑curricular opportunities to enrich the student experience.
  • An ability to promote exceptionally high standards of literacy, reading, writing, and spoken communication.
  • Responsive teaching strategies that incorporate high‑quality feedback and a strong focus on academic writing and textual analysis.
  • A proven record of excellent, reflective, and inspiring classroom practice.
  • A passion for literature and language, and the ability to inspire students from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds.
  • A commitment to ensuring students benefit from an enriched, holistic boarding school experience.

This role would be suitable for experienced teachers, although applications from ambitious early‑career professionals are warmly welcomed and will be considered.
