We are seeking to appoint two enthusiastic and highly motivated Clinical Teaching Fellows in Paediatric Emergency Medicine to join our Undergraduate Medical Education Team.

This is a fixed-term post for one year, with an anticipated start date of August or September 2026. The role offers you the opportunity to develop as confident and competent medical educator while gaining valuable experience in paediatric emergency medicine within a tertiary children’s hospital.

Main duties of the job

In this role, you will be based at Birmingham Children’s Hospital, working across the Emergency Department and the Undergraduate Medical Education Department. Post holders will deliver paediatric and child health education to medical students and physician associate students from the University of Birmingham and Aston University, contributing to teaching within both the academic programme and the Paediatric Emergency Department. The role includes a combination of clinical and non-clinical teaching responsibilities.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

You will join a team of committed clinical teachers and tutors and contribute to the design, development, delivery, and assessment of undergraduate education in paediatrics and child health within the Trust.

You will be expected to undertake the following responsibilities:

Teaching Responsibilities

  • Deliver regular clinical teaching to medical students and physician associate students using a service‑based learning and modern clinical apprenticeship model
  • Contribute to teaching during paediatric academic programmes for medical and physician associate students
  • Participate in the delivery of structured teaching, including simulation‑based education, clinical skills teaching, and induction programmes
  • Support the organisation and delivery of undergraduate examinations in collaboration with the Undergraduate Medical Education (UGME) team
  • Design, undertake, and evaluate a project within an area of paediatric medical education
  • Attend UGME educational and academic meetings, as agreed with the Head and/or Deputy Head of Academy
  • Deliver agreed educational and quality targets, in line with internal objectives and university requirements
  • Be accountable for the delivery and quality of teaching to the Head of Academy
