Position: Assistant Principal for Student Development

Overview

Leading student development and teacher training to strengthen school communities.

About the role

We are a large secondary school within the Ormiston Academies Trust, focused on delivering the highest-quality student experience through collaborative leadership and school improvement.

Responsibilities
  • Lead on PSHE, enrichment, and all student-related activities, including clubs and trips.
  • Oversee teacher training and the development of new teachers entering the profession.
  • Contribute to whole-school improvement while balancing senior leadership responsibilities with classroom teaching.
Qualifications
  • Qualified Teacher Status (since 2017) with a PGCE in Secondary Geography from the University of East Anglia.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Geology from the University of Birmingham.
  • Master’s degree in Educational Practice and Research with a focus on leadership and management.
Experience and skills
  • Experience in secondary education and a background in geography.
  • Strong leadership and management capabilities, with a record of school improvement and student development.
Work pattern

The role typically follows a Monday to Friday pattern, with flexibility required for events, enrichment activities, and other school priorities. Planning, assessment, and preparation may occur outside normal hours, and some weekend work or longer days may be necessary. Time management and safeguarding downtime to maintain balance are encouraged.
