Inspire the next generation of electricians

Do you want to play an important role in shaping the future of the electrotechnical industry? Whether you’re already an experienced tutor or a highly skilled electrician ready to pass on your knowledge, this is your opportunity to help apprentices develop the technical expertise, professional standards, and personal qualities they need to succeed in their careers.

About the role

As an Electrical Tutor, you’ll deliver engaging, high‑quality teaching for our Level 3 Installation and Maintenance Electrician apprenticeship programme. This role is about far more than teaching and assessing units from a qualification; you’ll be responsible for developing the full range of knowledge, skills, and behaviours set out in the apprenticeship standard. You’ll help apprentices connect theory to practice, build confidence through hands‑on learning, and develop the professional values and personal qualities they need to succeed in their careers and contribute positively to the workplace and wider community.

Responsibilities
  • Use your subject expertise to explain concepts clearly and confidently, ensuring lessons build on apprentices’ existing knowledge and skills, with a logical sequence that supports long‑term retention and mastery.
  • Deliver both theoretical and practical elements of electrical installation to a high standard, enabling apprentices to apply their learning accurately and effectively in real‑world scenarios.
  • Use a variety of assessment methods to check understanding, identify misconceptions, and adapt your teaching so that all apprentices can progress.
  • Provide clear, constructive, and developmental feedback that guides apprentices on how to improve, consolidate learning, and achieve their best possible outcomes.
  • Maintain accurate and up‑to‑date records of attendance, punctuality, progress, assessment results, and interventions, producing timely reports as required and liaising with Training Officers to ensure joined‑up support.
  • Embed employability skills, British values, equality and diversity, safeguarding, and health and safety into teaching and learning so that apprentices develop both technical competence and the professional behaviours employers expect.
  • Maintain a calm, safe, and inclusive learning environment by setting and upholding high expectations for behaviour, attendance, and punctuality.
  • Take proactive responsibility for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of apprentices, as well as ensuring their health and safety at all times in both classroom and workshop settings.
  • Support apprentices’ personal growth by building confidence, resilience, respect, and a strong work ethic, helping them prepare for successful careers and active participation in society.
  • Provide clear guidance on career pathways, industry expectations, and the skills needed to thrive in the electrotechnical sector.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to improve curriculum resources, share best practice, and contribute to innovation in delivery methods.
  • Keep your own industry knowledge and technical skills current through regular CPD, engagement with trade events, and working closely with employers to ensure training reflects the latest standards and practices.
What we’re looking for
  • Level 3 electrical qualification (or equivalent) with strong technical knowledge and industry experience.
  • GCSE/O‑Level Maths and English (A–C, 9–4) or Level 2 equivalent.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and IT skills.
  • Commitment to your own ongoing professional development.
  • Desirable:
  • Level 3 Award in Education and Training (AET) or equivalent teaching qualification, or willingness to achieve this.
  • Health & Safety qualification (e.g. IOSH Managing Safely).
  • Assessor qualifications (D32, D33, A1, or TAQA).
  • Internal Verifier qualifications (D34, V1, or TAQA).
Why join JTL
  • 25 days’ annual leave plus bank holidays, with extra days for long service and a Christmas shutdown.
  • Generous pension scheme with matched contributions and additional employer top‑up.
  • Life assurance and occupational sick pay.
  • Optional private healthcare after probation, plus a free annual health check after three years.
  • Gym membership discount scheme, cycle‑to‑work scheme, and access to an Employee Assistance Programme for you and your family.
  • CPD support, including funding for professional qualifications, ongoing training, and paid professional memberships.
  • Additional benefits such as a corporate wear allowance, retail discounts, and season ticket loans.
Safeguarding Commitment

JTL is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people and expects all its employees to share this commitment in conjunction with the requirements of the Prevent Duty and the positive promotion of modern British values.

This role requires an Enhanced DBS check.
