Overview

Cadet instructor – Volunteer role at Birmingham Vernon Sea Cadets & Royal Marines Cadets.

Birmingham Vernon is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated person to join its staff of Cadet Force Adult Volunteers (CFAVs). We are a long‑established Sea Cadet unit that has provided life‑changing opportunities for many young people.

What difference will you make?

Providing a friendly and educational environment, you will help our young people reach their potential and push themselves to learn more. Our volunteers help our cadets through the Cadet Training Programme (CTP) which puts them on a pathway to promotion and opens up new life‑changing opportunities. As they develop and learn more, they achieve nationally recognised qualifications which can be used in their day to day lives.

The structure and ethos, taken from today’s Royal Navy and Royal Marines gives our cadets immense pride and a sense of belonging.

What are we looking for?
  • Leadership experience and public speaking skills.
  • IT system use and safeguarding knowledge.
  • Fundraising experience and ability to work well in a team.
  • Basic computer skills (email, websites) derived from working life or volunteering.
  • Confidence in speaking to young people and willingness to give positive role model influence.
Responsibilities
  • Commit to at least one parade per week (Tuesdays and Thursdays 18:45–21:15) and support flexible volunteering.
  • Deliver basic sessions to young people and support with the Cadet Training Programme.
  • Participate in training modules for safeguarding and onboarding.
  • Communicate with cadets, parents and next of kin using provided channels.
Training and Support

All volunteers receive free training courses to onboard them fully, including safeguarding, onboarding and elective modules for basic topics. Experienced volunteers in education, team management or public speaking are especially valued.
