We are seeking enthusiastic, innovative and progressive Consultant Dermatologists to join our Dermatology Team in a large teaching Trust.
Department OverviewOur department consists of 3 Consultant Dermatologists, 2 Consultant Surgical colleagues, and a dedicated nursing and administration team based at the Birmingham Skin Centre, City Health Campus.
The department offers an outpatient area, skin theatre and minor procedures area, phototherapy suite, Cutaneous Allergy Unit and a regional Laser unit. Specialist services include dermatological surgery, tertiary cutaneous allergy, laser therapy, paediatric dermatology, skin cancer and a biologics service.
Main Duties- Develop or enhance a subspecialty interest to complement the department.
- Take equal responsibility with existing Consultants for the proper functioning of the clinical service, working with clinical and managerial colleagues towards achieving and maintaining national targets.
- Serve on an on‑call rota: in‑hours and out‑of‑hours, with a current 1:20 cross‑site cover and Category B on‑call availability supplement.
- Participate in the cross‑site regional out‑of‑hours on‑call rota for dermatology.
- Maintain GMC Specialist Register status in Dermatology or obtain CCT within 6 months of interview.

Job Responsibilities- Implement a work plan and schedule in alignment with agreed arrangements.
- Support undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, working with the University of Birmingham and Health Education West Midlands.
- Engage in research activities: protected research PAs for consultants within 18 months, with opportunities to initiate projects and apply for funding.
- Essential: MRCP or equivalent; on the Specialist Register in Dermatology (or CCT expected within 6 months of interview).
- Desirable: Higher Degree.
- Essential: Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining CCT in Dermatology; ability to take full and independent responsibility for acute medical emergencies and patient care.
- Desirable: Special interest that complements existing consultants.
- Essential:
Plan strategically, exercise sound judgement under pressure, motivate and develop multidisciplinary team, organise and prioritise workload effectively.
- Essential:
Conduct clinical audit; use evidence base and audit to support decision‑making.
- Essential:
Teach clinical skills to medical, nursing and other staff; appraise junior doctors and other staff. - Desirable:
Formal training in teaching.
- Essential:
Apply research outcomes to clinical problems; awareness of current specialty developments, initiatives and issues. - Desirable:
Knowledge of information technology application to Dermatology; publications in peer‑reviewed journals in last five years; evidence of original research.
- Essential:
Full GMC Registration.
