We have an outstanding opportunity for a skilled Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon with a specialist interest in Hand and Upper Limb surgery to join our team at the Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, based in Shropshire. This post will involve training in a specialist element as part of our succession plan.

Main duties of the job

As our Orthopaedic Surgeon, you will be performing general hand and upper limb spasticity surgery for the paediatric and adult population.

  • Providing preoperative assessment, intraoperative care, and postoperative follow-up for patients
  • Ensuring all treatments meet the highest standards of safety and clinical effectiveness
  • Working collaboratively with multidisciplinary colleagues to develop and improve clinical pathways
  • Contributing to audit, research, and the ongoing development of the service
  • Participating in appraisal, revalidation, and continuing professional development activities
  • Supporting the training and supervision of junior clinical staff

Person specification Clinical Audit
  • Understanding of principles of audit
  • Demonstrate recent leadership of audit, process and outcomes
  • Experience in audit specifically regarding Upper Limb surgery
Experience / Specialist Knowledge
  • Fully trained in the generality of Upper Limb surgery and able to develop a sub-speciality interest
  • All round Orthopaedic experience
  • Fellowship in area of special interest 12 months minimum post entry onto the specialist register
  • 12 Months + subspecialty fellowship training
  • Independent surgical practice in core Upper Limb procedures (as evidenced within log-book)
  • Subspecialist interest in upper limb spasticity surgery and/or paediatric upper limb trauma surgery
Registration / Qualification
  • Full GMC registration: registered with the GMC with licence to practice with no restrictions and currently practicing clinician
  • Entry on the GMC Specialist Register for T&O via CCT or CESR (CP) - proposed CCT/CESR (CP) date must be…
