About The Role
Balfour Beatty are looking for a Health, Safety and Wellbeing (HSW) Advisor to join our Regional Buildings Team on the HS2 - N1/N2 Headhouses project in Birmingham. The HSW Advisor will support the project to drive HSW performance, providing efficient and effective advice to meet and, where possible, exceed operational requirements. They will support the Head of HSW and Senior HSW Advisor to achieve our Zero Harm objectives.
Whatyou'll be doing
- Fully understand and support delivery of UK HSW Strategy.
- Contribute to the implementation, delivery and review of the BU Zero Harm Action Plan and Sustainability Action plan at business and/or project level.
- Support the delivery of the HSW Key Performance Indicators at project & business level.
- Support work‑winning teams with quality & innovative HSW responses for bids, proposals and PQQs.
- Provide expert support to investigate accidents, incidents and near‑miss events in accordance with Balfour Beatty Group Standards and company requirements.
- In conjunction with operational management complete a local and bespoke risk‑based Service Level Agreement with each project, which is kept under quarterly review.
- Undertake regular site inspections as per project risk matrix.
- Produce formal reports using the Project Portal to record planned & unplanned HSW inspections which review project performance against the UK HSW Regulatory Framework & UK Business Management System requirements.
- Undertake regular checks on Health and Safety Risk Management ensuring that appropriate risks and opportunities have been identified and are being implemented.
- Relevant H&S Diploma, NVQ or Degree (or equivalent level 6 qualification). Candidates with a certificate/qualification currently working towards a qualifying level are also considered.
- Working towards Chartered Membership of IOSH.
- Ability to influence and promote a positive HSW culture.
- Competence in incident investigation.
- Strong understanding of the UK Health and Safety Regulatory Framework.
- Ability to prepare formal written reports on HSW topics.
- Ability to undertake project planning and project management.
- Demonstrates commitment to continual learning to refine, further develop and apply expertise to add distinctive value to customers and Balfour Beatty.
- Broad experience of complex construction and civils projects (or equivalent sector experience).
- Ability to engage and converse at all levels.
