The RoleWe are seeking a Senior Business Development Manager to lead growth on the payroll side of our business. You’ll focus on winning new clients, building relationships, and positioning Pytronot as the partner of choice for agencies, accountants, and SMEs. In addition, you will build and manage a small business development team to support our next stage of growth.
Key Responsibilities- Deliver against new‑business targets for payroll services (PAYE, Umbrella, CIS, outsourced bureau).
- Build and maintain a pipeline across recruitment, accountancy, and mid‑market employers.
- Lead outreach, networking, and tender activity to generate opportunities.
- Consult with prospects to understand needs and design compliant solutions.
- Manage the full sales process – discovery to negotiation to contract handover.
- Collaborate with Operations and Compliance to ensure a seamless client experience.
- Report accurately on pipeline and forecast.
- Contribute to marketing and proposition development.
- Build, mentor and lead a small business development team as Pytronot scales.
- Set clear goals, coach team members, and create a high‑performance sales culture.
- Develop repeatable sales processes that enable scale.
- Proven success in payroll and/or recruitment sales.
- Strong knowledge of UK payroll compliance (IR35, AWR, CIS, NMW, RTI).
- Consultative selling style with the ability to influence at all levels.
- Commercial acumen – able to build pricing models, rate cards, and proposals.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated leadership experience – able to inspire, develop, and manage a small team.
- Drive, resilience, and the ability to exceed targets.
- Existing network in recruitment, accountancy or sectors such as healthcare, construction, or logistics.
- Experience preparing tenders or bids.
- Exposure to payroll software or systems.
- Experience setting up a BD function or leading sales expansion in a high‑growth company.
