Senior Proposal Manager – WSP (UK & Ireland)

Role Overview

As a member of the Strategic Bids team, you will play a key role in securing profitable business for WSP by managing our most important bid projects. Reporting to the Head of Strategic Bids, you will be involved in the capture planning process and may lead it. You will manage and support the bid team, communicate with clients and partners, organize review and approval meetings, and submit the proposal.

You will also champion best practices in work-winning through personal projects, coaching, and training, overseeing staff development. The position requires UK-wide and potentially international travel.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage complex and high value strategic bids as bid manager or other senior support roles.
  • Ensure appropriate bid governance and review processes are followed.
  • Provide input to the strategic bid capture planning process.
  • Work with client and Prospect Director to develop customised solutions that meet the client's needs.
  • Assist in prospect qualification throughout.
  • Understand internal and external customer requirements and provide resource expertise to support strategic bids.
  • Challenge operational, technical, commercial and financial proposals to develop solutions that provide greatest benefit for the business.
  • Work with bid authors/solution architects to convert operational knowledge into winning proposals.
  • Analyze each bid, including customer feedback, to share good practice across the business.
  • Train and coach colleagues on the bid process.
  • Contribute to the overall development of the UK Strategic Growth team.
  • Represent the proposals team at sector meetings and liaise with business sectors.
  • Collate market and competitor information useful to WSP.
Qualifications
  • Qualified to degree level in an appropriate subject.
  • APMP Foundation at minimum.
  • Thorough understanding of the public sector procurement process.
  • Experience producing tenders in the markets where WSP operates.
  • Demonstrable record of success in winning bids.
  • Awareness of bid governance and review processes.
  • Good bid writing and management skills, and commercial skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication, able to present complex ideas simply.
  • Robust project management skills, meticulous approach to detail and quality.
  • Strong time management and prioritisation skills.
  • Pro‑activity, initiative and ownership.
  • Ability to assimilate large volumes of information and manage workflows.
  • Strong relationship building with external clients and internal colleagues.
  • Excellent people skills to lead, motivate and enthuse others.
  • Passion for quality and continuous improvement.
  • Confidence to delegate to all levels.
  • Demonstrate behaviours aligning with WSP core values.
  • Support and promote a culture of continuous improvement.
