We are seeking a dedicated and proactive Facilities Assistant to join our Estates and Facilities team. This is a frontline role supporting the delivery of exceptional customer service and facilities management across our campus. You will play a key part in maintaining a safe, efficient, and welcoming environment for staff, students, and visitors, while upholding the University’s core values of Creating Opportunity, Thinking Differently and Building Community.

Key ResponsibilitiesAs a Facilities Assistant, you will:
- Respond to soft facilities service requests through the Estates and Facilities Helpdesk
- Carry out general porterage tasks, first-line repairs, and fault reporting
- Manage room layouts and assist with light replacements
- Support periodic high-level activities
- Ensure furniture arrangements in teaching spaces, exam rooms, and event venues meet customer requirements
- Inspect equipment and address maintenance issues
- Handle frontline repairs, including toilet blockages, water leaks, heating, ventilation, and lighting faults
- Assist with building incidents and emergencies as required
- Conduct weekly fire alarm tests and maintain accurate records
- Carry out daily, weekly and monthly building inspections to ensure health and safety and environmental compliance
- Provide timely updates on job progress through the Estates and Facilities Helpdesk portal
- Support faculty and student events, including Open Days (occasional weekend work)
- Work collaboratively with other operational teams, including Security and the Student Union
We are looking for someone who:
- Has experience in a customer-focused environment
- Works well as part of a team and can manage multiple tasks while meeting deadlines
- Has strong communication skills and is committed to delivering excellent service
- Has familiarity with general building maintenance and repair tasks (desirable)
- Clear and effective communication, particularly via email
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Teams, Excel)
- Experience using handheld devices (PDA)
- A strong understanding of health and safety best practice
