Role Responsibilities- Provide first line information and advice to disabled enquirers, applicants, students, staff, parents, and external stakeholders via email, telephone, face‑to‑face (including student drop‑ins).
- Monitor the main Disability Inbox and action emails within the team’s response timeframe.
- Create and maintain accurate, confidential, chronological electronic student files in accordance with data protection.
- Analyse students’ needs assessments and diagnostic reports to produce accurate Disability Support Summaries and Library Support Forms.
- Liaise with partners in the Personal Assistance Scheme and support preparation for its audit.
- Assist the Disability Support Team Leader in allocating Non‑Medical Help via the PAS.
- Provide proactive support to the team leader to facilitate timely completion of timesheets.
- Undertake finance processes for the Personal Assistance Scheme, raising requisitions and working with finance to ensure invoices are processed.
- Represent Student Services at university events, including recruitment, induction, and other events for enrolled students.
- Education:
GCSE level (or equivalent), including English and Mathematics Grade C or above. - Experience in customer‑facing roles.
- Experience working in a busy office environment managing multiple tasks, queries, and deadlines.
- Strong communication skills, empathy, and calmness to manage challenging situations and emotionally distressed students.
- Good understanding of confidentiality and data protection, with proven record‑keeping accuracy.
- Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel, Word and Outlook.
- Willingness to undertake some evening and/or weekend work, and to work from any university site with short notice.
- Well‑developed interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate to achieve mutually agreed resolutions.
The appointed candidate will normally be employed through our subsidiary company BCU Support Services Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Birmingham City University. Appointees with prior LGPS membership who wish to enter the LGPS scheme will do so and be employed by Birmingham City University directly.
