Location: Birmingham, AL

Salary: Starting at $65,000 (based upon skills and experience)

Schedule: Full-time, Monday – Friday, 8:00AM – 5:00PM (based on operational needs)

About the Role

Penn Tank Lines is looking for an Operations Manager to guide the operational activity at our fuel transport terminal. In this role, you’ll provide oversight across dispatch, driver coordination, load planning, safety, and customer interaction. The position centers on supporting safe, compliant deliveries while helping drivers and customers navigate changing operational needs. Successful candidates are comfortable communicating clearly, solving problems, and making informed decisions in a dynamic environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direction to dispatchers and drivers related to fuel movements and customer needs
  • Anticipate operational challenges and address issues as they arise
  • Promote safety initiatives and support DOT / OSHA compliance efforts
  • Communicate with drivers, customers, and corporate teams to align expectations
  • Respond to service disruptions and collaborate with others to improve outcomes
  • Contribute to process enhancements and assist with adoption of new technologies
Qualifications
  • 3–5 years in transportation or logistics (fuel hauling preferred)
  • Working knowledge of DOT regulations and fuel transport operations
  • Strong communication, situational decision-making, and organizational skills
  • Experience with dispatching / routing platforms and Microsoft Office
  • Safety-conscious, composed under pressure, and attentive to customer needs
