J & M Tank Lines is seeking a high‑impact Director of Operations at our corporate office in Birmingham, AL to take full accountability for the operational excellence and profitability of our assigned geographic regions. As a strategic leader, you will bridge the gap between high‑level financial goals and day‑to‑day terminal execution.
We are looking for a hard worker who takes pride in being a credible, successful leader, someone who can influence situations quickly and make productive decisions that drive results with minimal risk. You will be responsible for driving revenue growth, mentoring operations team members, and ensuring our fleet operates at peak efficiency while maintaining an uncompromised commitment to safety.
Key ResponsibilitiesStrategic Operational Leadership
- Operational Oversight: Direct daily operations across dispatch, safety, and maintenance to ensure loads are executed error‑free, safely, and profitably.
- Process Improvement: Constantly identify and implement effective, efficient ways to improve or implement new processes and projects.
- Scope of Impact: Provide leadership and operational direction to approximately 17 operations leaders and over 400 drivers.
- Revenue Management: Deliver business results across diverse business segments, accounting for daily, weekly, monthly and annual revenue.
- Technology Integration: Leverage telematics, automation, and data analytics to optimize routing, fueling, load planning, and fleet utilization.
- P&L Accountability: Manage terminal P&Ls, reviewing financial summaries with managers to identify gaps and improve margins.
- Asset Utilization: Maximize the profitability of assets through proper planning and truck utilization.
- Maintenance Oversight: Monitor fleet uptime and preventive maintenance compliance to align with DOT and operational needs.
- Team Leadership: Mentor, coach, and support Managers and department heads to foster a culture of accountability.
- Retention & Relations: Develop strong customer and driver relationships in support of associate relations and long‑term retention.
- Safety Culture: Promote a "safety‑first" environment, ensuring strict adherence to company, DOT, and regulatory requirements.
- Proven Leadership: A track record of managing large‑scale transportation operations and diverse teams.
- Collaborative Mindset: Ability to quickly build relationships and partner with internal departments (Pricing, Sales, Finance, HR) and external stakeholders to develop solutions that meet customer and driver needs.
- Financial Acumen: Strong experience managing budgets, analyzing overhead, and driving P&L performance.
- Decision Making: A fast learner with the ability to make productive decisions that drive results while minimizing risks.
