Summary: The PI Youth Specialist(s) will provide program guidance and support to current and potential PI participants, and expert knowledge to other program staff, including the Street Outreach team. This position will work approximately 30 hours per month.

Minimum Education: High school diploma or GED required.

Minimum

Work Experience:

none; however, the Youth Specialist(s) must be either in school or employed at least part-time external to Children’s Aid Society.

Licenses/Certifications: Valid Alabama driver license desired. If a driver, must have auto insurance minimum liability 100/300.

Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities: The PI Youth Specialist is required to have lived experience with homelessness (meaning they have personally experienced life as a homeless person). Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing. Ability to respond calmly and non-judgmentally to others, including persons in crisis. Ability to establish good rapport with homeless pregnant and/or parenting teens and to teach, coach, and model parenting and basic independent living skills necessary for successful transition into adulthood.

Ability to work with a team. Ability to provide services in a culturally sensitive manner. Understanding of trauma informed care and positive youth development.

Required Internal Certification/Trainings: Bi-annual TB skin test/medical report;
Background check required prior to employment.

List any physical requirements: Travel around the Birmingham area. Ability to work flexible hours. Able to lift/push up to 30 lbs. Able to bend and stand without support. Able to walk up/down stairs without support.
