Diesel Mechanic/Technician I - Experienced

Join Penske Truck Leasing as an experienced diesel mechanic at our Birmingham, AL location. This role involves performing routine and major maintenance on a fleet of modern truck and trailer equipment. You will work independently, mentor junior technicians, and ensure the highest safety and reliability standards.

Address: 226 Oxmoor Circle, Birmingham, AL 35209. Shift: 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, operating 7 days a week. Shift premium: $2.00 for 2nd shift and $3.00 for 3rd shift.

• Maintain vehicle safety and performance through preventative maintenance and timely repairs
• Repair and troubleshoot major components, including engines, transmissions, differentials, turbochargers, and fuel systems
• Keep work area clean, safe, and organized
• Use Penske’s tools and technology to log, research, and complete repairs, including basic diagnostics
• Continuously develop skills through Penske’s technician training program
• Support additional projects and tasks assigned by supervisor

• At least 6 years of practical truck and tractor‑trailer maintenance experience
• High school diploma or equivalent; vocational or technical certification in vehicle repair preferred
• Specialized training in diagnosing and troubleshooting major components, OEM training courses, ASE certification, and 608/609 certifications preferred
• Proficiency with all trade tools, including welding, diagnostics, hand, and power tools
• Valid driver’s license required; CDL preferred
• Strong problem‑solving, customer service, communication, and teamwork skills
• Willingness to work in non‑climate‑controlled conditions and to travel within the district as needed
• Basic computer skills; compliance with DOT, OSHA, and Penske safety and maintenance policies
• Reliable attendance and adherence to safety requirements for driving Penske and customer vehicles

• Frequent movement, standing, walking, climbing, bending, and sitting for extended periods
• Use hands to grasp, reach, touch, handle, and operate tools or controls regularly
• Work at heights using ladders and elevated platforms safely
• Work safely in all weather conditions
• See and hear clearly to navigate the work environment safely
• Regularly lift or move up to 50 lbs (23 kg) and occasionally up to 100 lbs (
