Diesel Mechanic​/Technician - Experienced

Location
: 226 Oxmoor Circle, Birmingham, AL 35209

Shift
: 2nd shift, Sunday – Thursday or Tuesday – Saturday.

• Ensure vehicles are maintained and safe for customers
• Perform preventive maintenance services on truck and trailer equipment with minimal supervision and in a timely manner
• Repair and troubleshoot major components such as engines, transmissions, differentials, turbochargers, and fuel system components, including replacement of complete assemblies
• Keep work area clean and safe
• Use Penske’s tools and technology to log, research and complete repairs, including basic vehicle diagnostics
• Learn new skills through Penske’s technician training
• Work on other projects and tasks as assigned by the supervisor

• 6+ years of practical experience with truck and tractor‑trailer maintenance
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred; vocational or technical certification in vehicle repair preferred
• Specialized training and experience in diagnosing and troubleshooting major components (engines, transmissions, differentials), OEM training courses, ASE Certification, and 608/609 certifications preferred
• Proficiency with welding equipment, diagnostic equipment, hand and power tools
• Valid driver’s license required, CDL preferred
• Strong problem‑solving, customer service, communication and teamwork skills
• Ability to work in non‑climate‑controlled conditions and travel within the district as needed
• Basic computer skills
• Full attendance and adherence to DOT, OSHA and Penske safety policies

• Move frequently, stand, walk, climb, bend and sit for extended periods
• Use hands to grasp, reach, touch, handle, feel and operate required tools or controls
• Work safely at heights using ladders and elevated working platforms
• Work safely in all weather conditions
• See and hear to navigate the work environment safely
• Regularly lift or move up to 50 lbs/23 kg and occasionally up to 100 lbs/45 kg; push/pull truck tires that exceed 100 lbs
