Position: RESEARCHER SENIOR LEAD

Position Summary

The University of Alabama at Birmingham, Psychology, is in search of an experienced and dedicated Researcher Senior Lead. This position in the Department of Psychology offers a unique opportunity to engage in cutting‑edge neuroscience research using Stereoelectroencephalography (sEEG). The successful candidate will work primarily on data analysis, manuscript preparation, conference presentations, and grant writing, with a small component of data collection.

The position is based in office CH 215 and reports directly to the supervising faculty member. This role is ideal for a motivated researcher seeking to advance their independent scientific career through high-impact publications and extramural funding.

General Responsibilities

As a Researcher Senior Lead, you will be at the forefront of research leadership, guiding the overall research strategy and overseeing the execution of multiple high-impact projects. This emerging leader role demands exceptional expertise and visionary thinking, with responsibilities including securing major funding, influencing research policy, and driving innovation. You will lead large, interdisciplinary teams, ensuring the highest standards of scientific excellence and significantly impacting the field.

Depending on the research focus, this position may involve research collaborator contact, research animal contact, and/or specimens.

Key

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Analyze neurophysiological and behavioral data using computational and statistical methods.
  • Develop and maintain analysis pipelines in Python, MATLAB, and/or R to process sEEG recordings and assess brain‑behavior relationships across language, memory, and emotion domains.
  • Author and prepare manuscripts for submission to peer-reviewed journals.
  • Lead writing of results, methods, and discussion sections, coordinate co-author revisions, and manage journal submission processes.
  • Develop and submit extramural grant applications to federal and private funding agencies.
  • Identify funding opportunities, prepare specific aims and supporting documents, and manage submission timelines in coordination with sponsored programs offices.
  • Present research findings at regional, national, and international scientific conferences.
  • Prepare abstracts, posters, and oral presentations, and represent the laboratory at professional networking and scientific exchange events.
  • Collect experimental data from research participants as needed in the Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU).
  • Administer behavioral testing software and interface with sEEG recording equipment under established research protocols.
  • Manage project administration tasks including IRB compliance documentation, data management, and protocol records.
  • Ensure regulatory adherence, coordinate with administrative staff, and support the operational needs of the research program.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Salary Range

$63,875- $103,800

Qualifications

Doctorate degree in a related field and one (1) year of related experience OR Master's degree in a related field and three (3) years of related experience OR Bachelor's degree in related field and five (5) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.

Preferences
  • Proficiency in statistical and data analysis software (R, Python, MATLAB, or SPSS)
  • Experience with electrophysiology, brain‑computer interface (BCI) systems, neurostimulation techniques, neuroanatomy, cognitive neuroscience, and/or computational neuroscience methods preferred.
  • Strong scientific writing demonstrated by peer-reviewed publications.
  • Related degree disciplines include Neuroscience, Psychology, Biomedical Engineering, Computational Neuroscience, or Cognitive Neuroscience.
  • Related experience includes doctoral-level research in electrophysiology, BCI, neurostimulation, computational or cognitive neuroscience.
