Overview
The University of Alabama at Birmingham, Med - Cardiovascular Disease, is seeking an experienced Researcher to join their team. This Researcher position supports Cardiovascular research dedicated to understanding the interrelationship between cardiac metabolism, contractility, and heart failure. The successful candidate will work independently to conduct complex experiments involving animal models, molecular biology techniques, and data analysis that advance our understanding of how substrate imbalances impair cardiac structure and function.
The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, capable of working both independently and collaboratively, and committed to maintaining the highest standards of research integrity and animal care protocols.
As a Researcher, you will play a key role in driving scientific discovery by independently leading and executing research projects. This professional-level position demands a high degree of expertise and judgement in designing studies, analyzing data, and may involve assistants in publishing findings. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, manage project timelines, and contribute to grant writing and securing funding for future research.
Depending on the research focus, this position may involve research collaborator contact, research animal contact, and/or specimens.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Maintaining laboratory animal colonies, performing PCR and RT‑PCR for genotyping, establishing and managing various experimental animal models, and conducting sophisticated studies using the CLAM system for activity monitoring.
- Coordinating echocardiography services, managing collaborative projects, collecting and analyzing experimental data, and ensuring laboratory operations run smoothly through supply ordering and safety compliance.
- Managing multiple simultaneous research studies with varying timelines and protocols, requiring strong multitasking abilities and meticulous attention to experimental schedules.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
$50,050 - $81,330
Qualifications- Master's degree in a related field
- Bachelor's degree in related field and two (2) years of related experience
- Associate's degree in related field and four (4) years of related experience
- High School diploma or GED and six (6) years of related experience
- Experience with laboratory animal handling, strong molecular biology skills (PCR, RT‑PCR, DNA extraction), and excellent organizational abilities for managing multiple concurrent studies.
- Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Genetics, Biomedical Sciences, Animal Science, or other life sciences degrees preferred.
- Related experience in research laboratories involving animal research, molecular biology techniques, cardiovascular or metabolic research, or positions requiring scientific data collection and analysis.
