Job HighlightsUAB Medicine’s Heart & Vascular Center (HVC) is a 48-bed unit – including open bays, private rooms, and 15 procedure labs – designed to streamline preop and recovery care for cardiac, neuro interventional, and interventional radiology patients. Patient care on this unit supports the cath (ACL) lab, electrophysiology (EP) lab, vascular interventional radiology (VIR) lab, and neuro interventional lab procedure areas.
Staff in this unit conduct assessments and procedures that could include cardioversions, ablations, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), angioplasty, nephrostomy, biliary drains, thrombectomy, and transesophageal echocardiograms (TEE). It's a dynamic, fast-paced environment where you are constantly learning and challenging your critical assessment skills as a nurse providing clinical care to a diverse patient population. Plus, it’s a role where team members can experience instant gratification from helping make a positive outcome.
Staff working in the cath lab, electrophysiology lab, and vascular interventional radiology lab procedure areas can expect to be on call 5-8 days per month, including after hours, weekends, and holidays. Staff must be able to respond within 30 minutes for emergent cases and can be given access to a room if needed. Ideal candidates have previous critical care experience, but it is not required.
Additional training is provided for candidates without experience.

Job DescriptionTo provide and manage patient care in a clinical area for specific age and patient population. To deliver care to patients utilizing the nursing process of assessment, planning, intervention, implementation and evaluation. To effectively interact with patient, significant others and other health team members while maintaining standards of professional nursing.
QualificationsFor Hospital, graduate of a School of Nursing program approved and accredited by the Alabama State Board of Nursing required. Bachelor's degree in Nursing preferred. For TKC, Associate's degree in Nursing required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement. Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) by the Alabama Board of Nursing required. Currently certified with cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) required or must be obtained within thirty (30) days of employment.
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required or must be obtained within six (6) months of employment for TKC areas and within one (1) month for Hospital locations. For TKC, currently certified with Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) the American Heart Association (AHA) preferred.
