Advanced Practice Provider - Deep Vein Thrombosis

Family Nurse Practitioner, Adult Primary Nurse Practitioner, Adult Acute Care Nurse Practitioner, or Physician Assistant.

  • Full-time, benefited Day shift, Monday-Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm
  • No weekends, holidays, or call
CME allowance

Full-time benefited APPs receive an annual $2,000.00 CME allowance.

UAB Medicine is seeking an Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to join the DVT Team! In accordance with UAHSF established policies and procedures, the APP is responsible for the provision and management of patient care in a clinical area for a specific patient population including UAB. This population will be patients diagnosed with deep venous thrombosis. Under the general direction of physicians in Interventional Radiology, Vascular Surgery, and Hematology the APP will perform inpatient DVT consultations, routine management of inpatients with DVT, and outpatient clinic.

The APP will utilize critical thinking abilities in the evaluation of care and the triage of DVT patients with the assistance of Interventional Radiology, Vascular Surgery, and Hematology staff. The APP will display good rapport and professionalism with patients, house staff, and all members of the team. The collaborating physician shall be available for direct communication for consultation and referral or arrange for the same medical coverage by a physician who is preapproved by the State Board of Medical Examiners in the same manner as the collaborating physician of record.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Based on thorough physical and psychosocial patient assessments, formulates and implements comprehensive patient care plans focused on prevention, diagnosis and comprehensive treatment of disease. Plans include patient and family education, prescriptions, additional lab and diagnostic testing, and therapies.
  • Ensures complete documentation of patient assessments, patient care plans, and care provided.
  • Orders and interprets laboratory and other diagnostic tests for the patient.
  • Maintains records and reports as required by regulatory agencies and The Joint Commission (TJC).
  • May coordinate and/or participate in performance and quality improvement activities.
  • May assist in the coordination of research protocols, serving as a patient advocate and a liaison between the patient and other health care providers.
  • Provides assistance in orientation and/or training of new clinical personnel as needed. Provides educational information by conducting workshops, in-service training and distributing appropriate materials for patients and staff.
  • Serves as the expert clinical resource to the clinical staff and patients in the area of specialty.
  • Provides a safe environment for patients and others.
  • Demonstrates a responsible attitude toward continued professional growth.
