This Advanced Practice Provider will help with all aspects of patient care with our urologic oncology group and optimize access for those undergoing genitourinary cancer screenings in our UAB Department of Urology. The APP will work in an outpatient clinic setting. The most important quality would be the ability to work as an independent provider but always as a part of the urologic oncology team which is naturally multi-disciplinary by nature.
It would be expected that this person would be able to counsel patients being screened and diagnosed with urologic cancers on the various diagnoses they may hold, treatment options available, the procedures that we perform, and the care that they could expect around the time of their procedure and cancer survivorship care. They will need to be well trained to be a key emotional support for patients that are just finding out that they have a new cancer diagnosis or trying to cope with the issues related to treatment.
This will be a fast paced environment where lifelong learning is very important and that is something that should be compelling to the applicant. This APP will be a key component of the care of these patients and a key part of their life as you help them navigate their cancer diagnosis and treatment plan.
