Position DescriptionAdvanced Practice Provider – UAB Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit – Part‑time.
- Shift: Part‑time, Benefited – 12‑hour PM shifts (7 pm–7 am), 20 hours per week.
- Rotating weekends and holidays with occasional call.
- $10,000 annual PM shift stipend.
- CME allowance: annual $2,000 for full‑time benefited APPs (usable for recertification, fees, CME courses, etc.).
Provide medical care and treatment within the established scope of practice to surgical patients, under direct communication with the collaborating physician and with the direction of a Board‑Certified Physician (or state‑approved physician). Coordinate plans of care, discharge, and specialty referrals; provide patient, family, and other health‑care provider education; perform comprehensive physical examinations and assessments; interpret laboratory and diagnostic tests; assist physicians with procedures per collaborative agreement;
participate in performance improvement activities.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Formulate and implement comprehensive patient care plans focused on surgical interventions, including education and prescription of additional lab and diagnostic testing.
- Ensure complete documentation of patient assessments, care plans, and services provided.
- Order and interpret laboratory and diagnostic tests; maintain records and reports required by regulatory agencies and The Joint Commission (TJC).
- Assists in the coordination of research protocols and serves as a patient advocate and liaison.
- Provide assistance and training to new clinical personnel; conduct workshops, in‑service training, and distribute educational materials.
- Serve as the expert clinical resource to staff and patients in the specialty area.
- Maintain a safe environment for patients and staff, and demonstrate commitment to continued professional growth.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements:
- Master's degree in Nursing with an Adult Acute Care NP certification, or graduation from an accredited Physician Assistant program.
- Work experience does not substitute for education.
- Currently certified as an Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) with Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner (CRNP) specialty by the Alabama Board of Nursing.
- Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association (AHA); to be obtained within 30 days of employment.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and/or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) may be required depending on the unit or department.
- Knowledge of procedures, protocols, and techniques needed to diagnose and treat injuries, disease, and deformities.
- Knowledge of computer systems, tools, and programs.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Interpersonal skills.
- Self‑directed and self‑motivated with the ability to multi‑task, problem‑solve, and work independently or as part of a team.
- Ability to maintain patient confidentiality.
