Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant – Ambulatory Intermediate Care Clinic – PRN – UAB Medicine
UAB Medicine is seeking an advanced practice provider for our Ambulatory Intermediate Care Clinic to provide high‑quality, patient‑focused care across the continuum of acute and outpatient services. This PRN, irregular schedule role will support the reduction of low‑acuity emergency visits, minimize unnecessary admissions, and improve length of stay for patients awaiting a bed.
Position SummaryThe provider will deliver medical care within the scope of practice under the direction of a collaborating physician. The collaborator will be available for direct communication and consultation, ensuring comprehensive, coordinated care for patients.
KeyDuties & Responsibilities
- Conduct complete physical and psychosocial assessments and develop individualized care plans.
- Order and interpret laboratory and diagnostic tests, and prescribe medications and therapies.
- Document patient encounters, care plans, and clinical outcomes accurately and timely.
- Coordinate care transitions, including discharge and specialty referrals.
- Participate in quality improvement and performance activities.
- Assist in research protocols and serve as patient advocate and liaison to interdisciplinary teams.
- Provide training and orientation for new clinical personnel.
- Serve as a clinical resource to staff and patients, ensuring a safe environment and professional growth.
- Master’s degree in Nursing with an Adult Acute Care NP certification, or graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program.
- No work experience substitutes for the required education.
- Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) with Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner (CRNP) Specialty by the Alabama Board of Nursing, or licensed Physician Assistant (PA‑C) by the Alabama Board of Medical Examiners.
- BLS certification from the American Heart Association required; ACLS and/or PALS may be required depending on unit.
- Proficiency in diagnostic procedures and treatment protocols for human injuries and diseases.
- Competency with computer systems, tools, and programs.
- Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
- Self‑directed, self‑motivated, multi‑tasking, and problem‑solving abilities.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team while maintaining patient confidentiality.
