The Technical Writer creates, edits, and maintains user‑focused documentation for ibml software applications and provides secondary support for hardware‑related content. The role requires understanding software workflows, UI behavior, system configuration, and interactions between the software and ibml scanning hardware. The Technical Writer works with engineering and product teams to document features accurately and produce content that supports users across software, firmware, and integrated system functions.
The position works under general supervision and typically reports to a supervisor or manager. A certain degree of creativity and latitude is required.
- Develop, write, and maintain documentation for ibml software products, including user guides, task instructions, reference topics, configuration steps, and release notes.
- Create in‑product help and knowledge base content that supports troubleshooting, workflow guidance, and onboarding scenarios.
- Document system interactions, data outputs, and settings where applicable.
- Produce supporting content related to scanner behavior, firmware changes, operator workflows, and interactions between software and hardware components.
- Collaborate with hardware engineering teams to validate device behavior, error reporting, and unit interaction points.
- Work with software developers, hardware engineers, QA teams, and product managers to gather and validate technical information.
- Participate in Agile development cycles and align documentation deliverables with sprint milestones.
- Support internal training and customer facing teams by creating learning materials, diagrams, or short eLearning content.
- Apply internal style guidelines, terminology standards, and structured content practices to ensure consistency and clarity.
- Maintain revision histories, update existing content to reflect feature changes, and ensure accuracy across software and hardware topics.
- Contribute to audit preparation and compliance documentation for domestic and international requirements.
- Publish documentation through content management systems that deliver technical content across multiple channels.
- Use authoring tools such as Mad Cap Flare or equivalent, along with Adobe Creative Suite products for images and diagrams.
- Use Adobe Captivate or similar tools to create short instructional eLearning content when needed.
- Use AI assisted tools to improve efficiency and quality and stay current with emerging AI technologies that support continuous improvement in documentation processes.
- Mentor junior writers or contributors on writing standards, templates, and review workflows.
- Perform duties required to support product releases and documentation quality initiatives.
- College‑level degree in Technical Communication, English, Journalism, Computer Science, Education, or equivalent experience.
- Three or more years of technical writing experience focused on software products.
- Familiarity with hardware‑software integration, device behavior, and system interaction points.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, Mad Cap Flare, Adobe InDesign, and Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator.
- Experience publishing content through a content management system.
- Experience developing short eLearning content and using media tools such as Adobe Captivate.
- Strong communication, critical‑thinking, and information‑gathering skills.
