OverviewThe Equipment Hygiene Assistant will be responsible for ensuring medical and care equipment is cleaned, disinfected, stored, and maintained to the highest standards. This role plays a vital part in maintaining health, safety, and infection control compliance while supporting the overall operations of the equipment service team.
Responsibilities- Take items of equipment apart before cleaning them.
- Clean equipment as per manufacturer’s instructions.
- Use appropriate chemicals for cleaning equipment and the cleaning area.
- Follow COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health) instructions.
- Safely store equipment within the cleaning area.
- Load and unload equipment into and out of the washer and dryer.
- Operate washing machines and dryers.
- Hand wash items of equipment when required.
- Place clean and dried equipment into bags.
- Maintain cleanliness and tidiness of the cleaning area.
- Wear provided uniform and footwear.
- Follow supervisor’s instructions and report issues promptly.
- Check and record serial numbers onto the stock system.
- Use computerized systems to record, collate, and retain cleaning and assembly details for tracking purposes.
- Label equipment with cleaning date.
- Complete final inspections and quality checks before items are picked for delivery.
- Maintain accurate audit records.
- Ensure safe movement and storage of equipment.
- Carry out duties independently with support available when needed.
- Comply with all Health and Safety legislation and Leeds City Council policies.
- Adhere to all Local Operational Procedures.
- Work collaboratively with both Leeds City Council (LCC) and Leeds Community Healthcare (LCH) colleagues.
- Knowledge of cleaning procedures and infection control standards.
- Ability to safely use cleaning chemicals and follow COSHH guidelines.
- Competence in using washers, dryers, and computerized recording systems.
- Strong attention to detail for inspection and quality checks.
- Previous experience in a healthcare or equipment hygiene role.
- Basic IT/data entry skills for equipment tracking systems.
- Teamwork and communication skills.
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Training or certification in infection control or health and safety is advantageous.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions effectively.
