This position is an intermediate role focused on processing all release of information (ROI), specifically medical record requests in a timely and accurate manner, while upholding the patient’s privacy and HIPAA compliance. This is a hybrid position and requires on-site work as needed.

WORKSITE ADDRESS: 1200 Corporate Dr Ste. 400, Birmingham, AL 35242. SHIFT: 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM CST, Monday – Friday.

Responsibilities
  • Receive and process requests for patient health information in accordance with Company and Facility policies and procedures.
  • Maintain confidentiality and security with all privileged information.
  • Maintain working knowledge of Company and facility software.
  • Adhere to the Company's and Customer facilities Code of Conduct and policies.
  • Inform manager of work, site difficulties, and/or fluctuating volumes.
  • Assist with additional work duties or responsibilities as evident or required.
  • Enhance attention to detail for medical records.
  • Apply medical privacy regulations to guard against unauthorized disclosure.
  • Manage patient health records and safeguard patient information in compliance with HIPAA standards.
  • Prepare new patient charts, gathering documents from paper sources and/or electronic health records.
  • Ensure medical records are assembled in standard order, accurate, and complete; create digital images of paperwork for storage in the EMR.
  • Respond to requests for patient records, both within the facility and by external sources, and transmit them appropriately.
  • Answer inbound/outbound calls and assist with patient walk-ins as needed.
  • Assist with administrative duties such as handling faxes, opening mail, data entry, and scheduling pickups.
  • Assist with training associates in the HIS positions and participate in project teams and committees to advance operational strategies.
  • Generate reports for management or facility as directed; exceed level 1 productivity expectations as outlined at the site.
  • Mentor HIS staff for professional development and inform senior leadership of issues, opportunities, or challenges.
  • Assist with regional training, mentoring, and coverage as needed; participate in onboarding activities for new employees.
  • Assist with Quality Assurance tasks and act in a lead role with staff regarding general questions and training.
  • Lead training sessions for timely staff development.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
What You Will Bring To The Table
  • High School Diploma or GED; must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Ability to commute between locations as needed and work overtime during peak seasons when required.
  • 1 year Health Information related experience; basic computer proficiency; comfortable using phones, fax, printers, and other general office equipment.
  • Professional verbal and written communication skills in English; detail- and quality-oriented for accurate and compliant medical records.
  • Strong data entry skills; ability to work with minimum supervision and respond to changing priorities.
  • Ability to organize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment; presentation skills for small group settings; forward thinking and problem solving.
Bonus Points If
  • 2+ years Health Information related experience.
  • Meets and/or exceeds Company productivity standards; prior production/metrics-based work experience.
  • In-person customer service experience; ability to build relationships with on-site clients and customers.
  • Comfortable bringing new ideas and process improvement suggestions to internal stakeholders.
