Position Summary

The Clinical Manager is responsible for ensuring that patient care is coordinated, delivered, and managed appropriately. The Clinical Manager provides overall direction of hospice clinical services.

Hours / Schedule

Full Time; 40 hours per week.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Registered Nurse with current licensure to practice professional nursing in the state where the agency is located.
  • Bachelor's degree in nursing from an accredited program by the National League for Nursing.
  • Three years of leadership/management experience in a hospice or related health care organization.
  • Two years' experience in direct hospice field work.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise and direct professional administrative personnel.
  • Ability to market and deal tactfully with customers and the community.
  • Must have a valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and auto liability insurance.
  • Using effective body mechanics, must be able to lift up to 40 lbs. floor to waist; lift 10 lbs. waist to shoulder; lift and carry 40 lbs. and push/pull 40 lbs.
  • Must be able to (or assist with) lift, turn, move and position patients.
  • Must be able to ensure clinically competent/qualified staffing is appropriate to meet patient needs.
  • Must be able to ensure efficient, appropriate, and cost-effective clinical operations.
  • Must be able to modify/approve clinical paperwork, conduct chart audits, and provide associate education when necessary.
  • Must have knowledge of hospice Medicare, state regulations, governmental regulations, ACHC, and JCAHO standards (if applicable).
Key Responsibilities
  • Provide help in assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient and family/caregiver care to all clinical personnel.
  • Interpret operational indicators to detect census changes and impacts on staffing, revenues, or expenses.
  • Assist in hiring, evaluating, and terminating clinical personnel.
  • Oversee and ensure compliance of every clinical note, order, practice, and process produced by clinical staff.
  • Responsible for orienting new organization personnel.
  • Participate in planning, development, and implementation of in-services and continuing education programs.
  • Assist in evaluating organization performance via the performance improvement program, productivity reviews, and quality assurance.
  • Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal laws regarding licensure and certification of personnel; maintain compliance with ACHC Hospice Care standards.
  • Promote hospice referrals in the health care community.
  • Hold clinical staff accountable for meeting productivity and quality standards.
  • Perform joint visits with associates at least semi-annually and document performance.
  • Coordinate on-call, weekend, and vacation schedules for all clinical staff.
  • Ensure patient care adheres to agency policy and regulatory/state requirements.
  • Respond to patient complaints promptly and with customer service as top priority.
  • Document complaints and communicate with associates in response to complaints.
  • Assist in auditing charts for adverse events and OBQI reports.
  • Participate in regulatory agency reviews.
  • Counsel and develop associates regarding job expectations.
  • Work cooperatively with intake and marketing staff to accept new referrals.
  • Perform visits and admissions as needed based on staffing availability.
  • Collect and trend all required data for the PI program.
  • Submit PI quarterly results to the Compliance and Quality Manager.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.
