Sterile Processing Coordinator –
UAB Medicine
We are looking for a competent and experienced Sterile Processing Coordinator to join our Sterile Processing Department at UAB St. Vincent’s in Birmingham, AL. The role involves coordinating work between the Operating Room and Sterile Processing Department, ensuring efficient case cart preparation, instrument tray assembly, supply ordering, and quality assurance.

Sterile Processing - Schedule:
Monday - Friday, 7:00 am - 3:30 pm (no weekends or holidays)
- Coordinate shift operations: scheduling, assigning activities, and resource management.
- Provide technical or functional support to technical staff.
- Assign, monitor, and review quality and progress of work; report compliance with policies and procedures.
- Oversee supply maintenance and evaluate the orientation and training of associates; provide input on staff performance reviews.
- Conduct regular audits to contribute to quality assurance of work product.
- Serve as primary point of contact for immediate needs from the Operating Room.
Licensure / Certification / Registration
One or more of the following is required:
- Central Service Tech specializing in Sterile Processing credentialed from the Healthcare Sterile Processing Association obtained prior to hire.
- Central Service Tech specializing in Sterile Processing credentialed from the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) obtained prior to hire.
Education
- High‑school diploma or equivalent with at least 2 years of cumulative experience, OR an associate’s or technical degree, OR 4 years of job‑specific cumulative experience.
