Job HighlightsGraduate Medical Education (GME) is defined as the period of didactic and clinical education in a medical specialty, subspecialty, or sub-subspecialty that follows completion of undergraduate medical education (i.e., medical school) and that prepares physicians for the independent practice of medicine in that specialty, subspecialty, or sub-subspecialty. Also referred to as residency or fellowship education.
At UAB Hospital, the GME Office is the administrative office that manages and oversees all activities as it relates to ACGME-accredited training programs and residents/fellows enrolled in these programs. At UAB Hospital, we have 100+ programs and 1200+ residents/fellows.
GME operations include institutional and program accreditation, finance, compliance, and onboarding activities. This position is in the finance area of GME.
Job DescriptionTo design, maintain, and troubleshoot the Graduate Medical Education (GME) database system, which contains data on resident demographics and detailed scheduling. To generate data files in a desired format that will be utilized by other departments and facilities. To understand external finance regulations related to GME and internal processes to be able to analyze internal data.
- Responsible for the design, programming, integrity and maintenance of the GME Access database that contains data on resident demographics and monthly schedules. Adapts database functions as new requests are received. Troubleshoots and problem solves issues related to automated processes and data related issues.
- Understands external finance regulations related to GME and internal processes to be able to examine/analyze data on resident schedules that is received monthly from all programs. Perform analysis to assess the quality of the data received. Makes corrections as needed before including in GME database.
- Analyzes/troubleshoots, manages and maintains data used for annual cost report for UAB Hospital, affiliates and others as needed. Produces data in requested varying formats. Extracts and adapts data from GME database in preparation for upload to Medicare Cost Report system.
- Builds and maintains statistics related to FTEs and revenue. Adapts and constructs reporting based on needs of the stakeholder.
- Using query functions, produces and manages monthly billing invoices for affiliated institutions. Adapt automated functions as needed based on changes each year in the affiliated institutions funding agreements (House Staff Agreements).
- Develops audit processes and maintains accurate resident demographic data between the two GME systems – Access and Med Hub.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Bachelor s degree in Computer Science, Math, Engineering or a related field and two (2) years of related experience required. Work experience may substitute for education requirement.
