Job DescriptionTo provide comprehensive management of all UAB Health System Supply Chain Materials Management and Logistics. To assure alignment with UAB Medicine initiatives and oversees the Materials Management operations (receiving; logistics; materials distribution, linen management; medical surgical inventory management, and equipment management) and to coordinate the deployment of efforts related to operational excellence, utilization, conversions and standardization of supplies, services and equipment.
Lead business transformation initiatives in preparation for system adoptions (ERP, MMIS, EHR, etc), create standard policies and procedures for supply chain operations that will govern the Health System, and validate compliance with policies, procedures, and other regulatory requirements.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Provides Health System oversight for Materials Management daily operations and initiatives.
- Attracts, retains and develops leaders to ensure continuous operational capability across supply chain.
- Develops and implements processes that will streamline operations and create savings for the organization.
- Analyzes operations and expenses and provides leadership and assistance in achieving operational excellence and reduce expenses.
- Manages budgets and budgeting activities and presents monthly variances.
- Develops departmental goals, objectives, standards of performance, policies and procedures.
- Functions in an advisory capacity organizationally to evaluate proposed changes in procedures as they relate to the Supply Chain function.
- Displays commitment to teamwork through open, honest communication and unity of purpose.
- Displays commitment to achieving results that exceed expectations; provide solutions, ideas and/or options for problems or new methods for addressing problems; participate in process improvement activities.

- Develops, allocate and administer department budgets; review departmental benchmarks or performance indicators for the fiscal year to measurement of effectiveness, efficiency, productivity and compatibility with hospital goals.
- Performs other duties as assigned
Bachelor's degree in Business Management, Healthcare or a related field and ten (10) years of supply chain experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement. A master's degree preferred. Healthcare supply chain experience preferred.
Supervisory ResponsibilitiesApproximately four (4) to ten (10) direct reports. Approximately eleven (11) or more indirect reports.
Budget ResponsibilitiesManagement of funds with signatory and/or budget authority.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities- In-depth knowledge of healthcare supply chain logistics operations and processes
- Ability to effectively communicate to various groups, ranging from hospital supply chain staff and clinicians to departmental leaders, verbally and in writing
- Ability to provide Supply Chain leadership, strategic directions, oversight and collaboration of parties across multiple disciplines and facilities to meet goals
- Strong understanding of clinical/functional departments and hospital operations
- Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects across multiple facilities
- Problem-solving skills
- Knowledge of ERP or MMIS systems
