Medical Lab Scientist I - Birmingham
Join our team as a Medical Lab Scientist I where you will play a crucial role in delivering high-quality patient care by performing both routine and complex laboratory tests. Responsibilities- Determine the acceptability of specimens for testing according to established criteria.
- Perform routine and complex technical procedures in accordance with departmental Standard Operating Procedures.
- Monitor, operate, and troubleshoot laboratory instrumentation to ensure proper functionality.
- Make technical decisions regarding testing and resolve any issues that arise.
- Prepare, test, and evaluate new reagents or controls.
- Report accurate and timely test results to ensure quality patient care.
- Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures.
- Identify and replenish testing bench supplies as necessary.
- Assist with processing of specimens when needed.
- Maintain a safe work environment and wear appropriate personal protective equipment.
- Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, Clinical Laboratory Science, or Medical Technology, or meet local regulatory CLIA State requirements.
- 2+ years of clinical laboratory testing experience.
- Proficiency in Microbiology testing including plate reading and gram staining or chemistry.
- Experience with laboratory information systems such as Cerner or Epic.
- ASCP or AMT certification preferred or required as listed in the requirement.
- Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
- Proficient with computers and familiar with laboratory information systems.
- High level of attention to detail along with strong communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to pass a standardized color vision screen.
- Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts as needed.
Skills & Qualifications
- State Medical Technologist license may be required as listed in the requirement.
- Familiarity with core laboratory operations and support for microbiology specifically.
The position is based at a laboratory in Birmingham, AL, specifically supporting the core laboratory with a focus on microbiology or chemistry. Open to work any shift, 1st, 2nd, or 3rd shift. The role involves reading plates and gram stains, and there will be training provided. The work environment is collaborative, requiring the use of personal protective equipment to maintain safety standards.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Birmingham, AL.
Pay And BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $30.00 - $36.00/hr.
