Job HighlightsUAB Medicine’s Heart & Vascular Center (HVC) is a 48-bed unit – including open bays, private rooms, and 15 procedure labs – designed to streamline preop and recovery care for cardiac, neuro interventional, and interventional radiology patients. Patient care on this unit supports the cath (ACL) lab, electrophysiology (EP) lab, vascular interventional radiology (VIR) lab, and neuro interventional lab procedure areas.
Staff in this unit conduct assessments and procedures that could include cardioversions, ablations, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), angioplasty, nephrostomy, biliary drains, thrombectomy, and transesophageal echocardiograms (TEE). It’s a dynamic, fast-paced environment where you are constantly learning and challenging your critical assessment skills as a nurse providing clinical care to a diverse patient population. Plus, it’s a role where team members can experience instant gratification from helping make a positive outcome.
Staff working in the cath lab, electrophysiology lab, and vascular interventional radiology lab procedure areas can expect to be on call 5-8 days per month, including after hours, weekends, and holidays. Staff must be able to respond within 30 minutes for emergent cases and can be given access to a room if needed. Ideal candidates have previous critical care experience, but it is not required.
Additional training is provided for candidates without experience.

Job DescriptionTo perform a variety of complex specialized tasks eminent in operating radiographic equipment to perform vascular and neuroradiology angiographic and interventional procedures.
QualificationsGraduate from a Radiography program accredited by a mechanism acceptable to the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement. Currently registered as a Registered Technologist (R.T.(ARRT)) by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) required.
