Shifts: full-time, part-time 7on / 7off, and flexi/PRN

As a pharmacy technician at UAB Medicine, you’ll be an integral part of the pharmacy team. Pharmacy technicians work directly with pharmacists and have a variety of responsibilities that support patient care at UAB Hospital.
Duties may include preparing sterile IV medications, filling medication order requests, filling automated dispensing cabinets, compounding non-sterile medications and preparing prescription orders. To perform duties in the pharmacy department that do not require a licensed professional including processing and delivering medication, ordering and issuing products and receiving and ordering supplies. May be required to prepare sterile products.
- Assists pharmacist with dispensing activities. Assists with inventory control. Maintains adequate drug supplies necessary to support daily operations.
- Maintains the daily operations within the department to include answering phones, assisting individuals at the pharmacy window, entering charges for medications, receiving and stocking drug orders and maintaining cleanliness of assigned area.
- Repackages bulk medication into unit dose containers ensuring the correct drug name, strength, lot number, expiration date and barcode are labeled correctly. Ensures the pharmacist verifies the unit dose medication prior to placing it in stock.
- Ensures medications are delivered and distributed to correct patient care area or Automated Medication Management System (AMMS) in a timely manner. Observes established guidelines. Ensures Pyxis medications are loaded properly.
- Fills and delivers controlled substances to and from designated patient care areas according to established guidelines. Maintains correct controlled substance counts and resolves discrepancies as necessary.
- Prepares sterile products as necessary following proper protocols.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- High School diploma or GED required.
- Currently certified as a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or other nationally recognized and accredited certification program requiring examination.
