Pharmacist - Part Time - Multiple Shifts (912) – UAB Medicine
Position Overview- Pay range: $52,022.50 - $84,537.50 / year
- Schedules: Average 20 hours/week; position included in every 4th weekend staffing rotation.

Floater pharmacists rotate through different Acute Care patient care areas throughout UAB Main Hospital. Patient care areas can include internal medicine, critical care, transplant, oncology, obstetrics, emergency medicine, etc.
Responsibilities- Accurately assess the appropriateness of each medication as it is prescribed based on the patient’s diagnosis, condition, allergies, and medication history; review for adverse drug reactions and drug interactions. Promote rational medication therapy by evaluating all orders in the context of current literature, UAB medication evaluations and the UAB Formulary, contacting the physician or healthcare professional and making recommendations for changes when appropriate.
- Actively monitor patient-specific response to prescribed therapies; review potential adverse drug reactions and drug interactions to optimize therapy. Re‑evaluate prescribed therapy and make recommendations for changes when appropriate.
- Actively document patient’s medication history profile; notify appropriate physician or healthcare professional of any issues regarding compliance or medication therapy regimen.
- Assure responsible distribution of medications for administration in assigned area of coverage. Triage orders to meet immediate patient care needs.
- Provide drug information to patients and family members, physicians, pharmacists, nurses and other health care professionals. Share clinical observations and new information from medical/pharmaceutical literature in order to positively impact the optimal use of medications.
- Support educational programs of the Division and the department by mentoring pharmacy students and/or pharmacy residents.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
To provide patient-focused pharmacy services including monitoring of therapy, interventions, basic pharmacokinetics, education and medication distribution. To support the mission, activities and programs of the division, department and the Hospital.
QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Pharmacy required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement. Currently licensed or eligible to be licensed as a Licensed Pharmacist by the Alabama Board of Pharmacy (ALBOP) required.
