Job Overview
The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), Dept of Optometry & Vision Science, seeks a Clinical Research Coordinator II to assist with small- and large-scale clinical studies and trials in eye- and vision-related research. Principal responsibilities include recruitment and retention, data quality control, and regulatory compliance.
General ResponsibilitiesServe as coordinator for studies and provide support to team members within protocol constraints.
Support screening and participant eligibility determination in collaboration with senior staff.
Conduct activities in accordance with the protocol, regulations, and Good Clinical Practice (GCP).
Assist with the study life cycle from start‑up to closure: collect and record data, recruit and perform follow‑up, schedule visits, and coordinate lab and fieldwork.
KeyDuties & Responsibilities
- Implement study participant recruiting and screening protocols.
- Collect, analyze, and enter data for clinical trials and ensure quality control.
- Complete enrollment logs, informed consent logs, and all other data forms with high accuracy.
- Perform general clerical duties (faxing, scanning, routing messages, coordinating the purchase of study supplies/materials).
- Enter data into REDCap and SPSS and summarize study data.
- Plan, organize, and coordinate multiple work assignments and maintain effective working relationships.
- Establish rapport with study participants and maintain contact with enrolled participants.
- Train assistants and volunteers who gather and enter data.
- Monitor compliance of study procedures with federal, state, and university regulations.
- Maintain eligibility forms and informed consent following IRB, GCP, and HIPAA regulations.
- Effectively and professionally communicate sensitive information and maintain confidentiality.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
$50,050 - $81,330
Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree in a related field and three years of related experience required (work experience may substitute for education).
- Clinical trials research experience and regulatory experience.
- Ability to operate various office machines, printers, computers, and software packages.
- Interpersonal skills.
- Written and verbal communication skills.
- Detail‑oriented.
- Prior research experience with human subjects, clinical trials, and regulatory experience.
