A growing and dynamic healthcare organization in Birmingham, AL is seeking an experienced Controller to lead and oversee all financial operations. This key leadership role ensures financial accuracy, regulatory compliance, and operational efficiency across the organization.
The Controller will be responsible for maintaining the integrity of financial records, managing accounting operations, and supporting strategic financial planning initiatives. This position requires strong knowledge of GAAP, healthcare financial practices, and corporate accounting principles, along with the ability to provide actionable financial insights that drive performance.
Key Responsibilities- Prepare and maintain accurate financial statements in accordance with GAAP and healthcare industry regulations.
- Oversee timely month-end and year-end close processes.
- Conduct financial analysis to support operational and strategic decision-making, including cost analysis related to clinical services and preventive programs.
- Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable functions, ensuring timely vendor payments and accurate patient billing processes in compliance with healthcare standards.
- Perform balance sheet reconciliations and maintain general ledger integrity across all service lines.
- Assist with budgeting and forecasting, incorporating patient volume trends, reimbursement rates, and healthcare-specific cost drivers.
- Utilize financial management and healthcare billing systems to ensure effective reporting and claims processing.
- Need to have a hand in AR/AP and have a good understanding of cash flow.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure accurate financial data flow and alignment with organizational objectives.
- Support corporate accounting functions including audit preparation, compliance reporting, and adherence to regulatory requirements.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
- CPA certification or advanced degree preferred.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and corporate accounting principles.
- Experience in corporate accounting, ideally within healthcare or service-based environments.
- Proficiency with accounting and financial management systems (e.g., Sage, Quick Books); healthcare billing systems experience is a plus.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining high accuracy and meeting deadlines.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Self-directed with the ability to exercise sound judgment in a fast-paced environment.
