Senior Internal Controls Associate - Hybrid
Location: Birmingham, AL
Our client is seeking a Senior Internal Controls Associate to support the design, execution and monitoring of internal control activities across the organization. This role partners closely with Accounting, Finance and Operations teams to support compliance efforts, improve processes and strengthen control effectiveness. The position is well suited for someone who enjoys understanding how the business operates by asking thoughtful questions and driving continuous improvement.
WhatYou Will Do
- Support planning and execution of the internal controls program including risk assessment, documentation, testing and evaluation
- Serve as a subject matter resource for internal control processes across multiple functional areas
- Lead walkthroughs, process documentation, flowcharts and control testing activities
- Evaluate control design and operating effectiveness and identify improvement opportunities
- Support remediation efforts and track control changes and results
- Coordinate with internal and external audit teams support testing and documentation requests
- Communicate testing results, risks and remediation status to management
- Assist with special projects and process improvement initiatives
- Use available tools and data to support analysis and insights
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field
- Two or more years of experience in accounting, auditing or internal controls
- Understanding of accounting processes and their impact on financial reporting
- Familiarity with internal control frameworks and regulatory requirements
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities with limited supervision
- Comfortable learning new processes and working cross-functionally
- Experience with accounting systems, audit tools or data analysis tools preferred
- Professional certification such as CPA or CIA preferred
Compensation for this role depends on factors such as skill set, experience, training, licensure and office location. Salary range is disclosed in the posting. The individual may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses and can participate in medical, dental, vision benefits as well as the company’s 401(k) retirement plan.
