Senior Payroll Specialist

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Senior Payroll Specialist to join one of our premier construction engineering clients. This individual will play a critical role in ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing, compliance with local and federal regulations, and providing exceptional service to our employees. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced environment, bring a strong understanding of payroll systems, and possess excellent problem‑solving skills.
Key Responsibilities- Manage end-to-end payroll processing for 600+ employees across multiple states
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax laws and regulations.
- Process and reconcile payroll data, including earnings, deductions, benefits, and taxes.
- Maintain accurate employee payroll records in the HRIS and payroll systems.
- Handle payroll audits and resolve discrepancies promptly.
- Prepare and submit tax filings, including W-2s, 1099s, and other required documentation.
- Stay updated on changes to payroll laws and regulations, implementing updates as needed.
- Collaborate with HR and Finance teams to ensure data integrity and resolve employee inquiries regarding payroll.
- Assist with system upgrades, implementations, and process improvements.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field (preferred).
- Minimum of 3 years of payroll processing experience, with multi-state or international payroll experience a plus.
- Strong knowledge of payroll systems (Paychex, ADP, Workday) and Microsoft Excel.
- Comprehensive understanding of payroll laws, regulations, and tax compliance.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
- Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification is a plus.
The salary range for this role is $65,000-$75,000. The individual may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses and can participate in medical, dental, and vision benefits as well as the company's 401(k) retirement plan.
