Handling multi-state sales/use tax recovery projects for large, sophisticated organizations takes more than just a technical understanding of current sales and use tax rules. As a Sales and Use Tax Senior in EY’s Sales and Use Tax Lookback Review Center of Excellence (COE), you’ll build and apply your knowledge on a wide range of sales and use tax recovery projects for clients in multiple industries.

Our Sales and Use Tax Lookback Review COE is a national team leading large multi-state sales and use tax recovery projects for EY’s largest clients. Key Responsibilities

There’s no average day; you’ll spend time on diverse projects, responsibilities, and tasks. Your clients will turn to you for up-to-the-minute tax advice you can always rely on. To make that happen, work in a highly collaborative culture, listening to and sharing information with colleagues.

Skills And Attributes For Success
  • Research clients’ business operations and build long‑lasting relationships
  • Identify applicable sales and use tax exemptions and exclusions
  • Identify potential over‑payment opportunities or risks and communicate them to clients
  • Monitor current tax law changes to maintain credibility as a trusted advisor
  • Develop clear, intelligent plans and approaches for sales and use tax recoveries
  • Prepare and defend sales and use tax refund claims
  • Participate in a motivated team of professionals
  • Supervise a motivated team, ensuring they have the skills, knowledge, and opportunities to reach full potential
To qualify for the role, you must have
  • A bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related discipline
  • Professional knowledge in a broad range of sales and use tax processes, concepts, and tools
  • A proven record of excellence in a professional services or tax organization
  • Technical writing and research experience in a tax context
  • The ability to prioritize when working on multiple complex projects
  • Strong influencing skills and confidence to question existing processes
  • Willingness to travel as needed and ability to work in a balanced hybrid environment
Ideally, you’ll also have
  • An achieved or partially achieved CPA qualification, or certification as a member of the Institute for Professionals in Taxation or CMI designation, or ability to sit for a state bar

  • Comprehensive compensation and benefits package based on performance (base salary range $81,700–$135,000 nationwide; $98,100–$153,500 in NYC Metro, Washington State, and California). Include medical, dental, pension, 401(k), and paid time off.
  • Hybrid model: 40–60% in‑person for external, client‑serving roles.
  • Flexible vacation policy: time off based on personal circumstances plus EY Paid Holidays, Winter/Summer breaks, Personal/Family Care, and other leaves of absence.
