About

The Role

The Director of Environmental is responsible for developing, implementing, and leading the company’s environmental strategy across all manufacturing operations producing Ductile Iron Pipe and related products for potable water and wastewater systems. This role ensures compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations while driving continuous improvement in environmental performance, sustainability, and risk management. The Director will serve as the company’s subject matter expert on environmental compliance related to foundry operations, metal casting, coatings, wastewater, air emissions, and solid and hazardous waste management.

Duties And Responsibilities Environmental Compliance & Regulatory Leadership
  • Lead the Environmental Management activities in a Heavy Industrial Manufacturing Environment.
  • Coordinate engagement with the environmental team and other personnel in the identification, development and implementation of environmental goals, policies, procedures, and management systems.
  • Oversee ensuring proper reporting and compliance with requirements mandated by local, state, and federal regulations as well as internal standard including but not limited to:
  • Major Source Air Permit & EPA Foundry MACT / Area Source Compliance Industrial wastewater and stormwater Permits and Discharge Monitoring Reports.
  • Solid and hazardous waste management.
  • Spill prevention and emergency response.
  • Toxic Release (TRI Form R), Hazardous Materials (SARA 312), Greenhouse Gas, and Air Emissions Inventories.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with (EPA, state, local) regulatory agencies. Delegate to Environmental Staff where appropriate.
Environmental Management Systems
  • Lead the development, implementation, and maintenance of the company’s Environmental Management System (EMS).
  • Utilize the Environmental Management System to maintain environmental metrics and calendar of compliance tasks.
  • Coordinate periodic internal compliance assessments across all facilities.
  • Support due diligence activities for expansions, capital projects, and acquisitions.
Sustainability & Continuous Improvement
  • Develop and execute environmental sustainability initiatives, including:
  • Waste reduction and recycling
  • Water conservation and reuse
  • Energy efficiency and emissions reduction
  • Partner with engineering and operations to integrate environmental considerations into process improvements and capital investments.
Leadership & Collaboration
  • Lead, mentor, and develop environmental staff across multiple sites.
  • Oversee development and implementation of environmental training and awareness programs.
  • Retains and evaluates providers of outside expertise as necessary and supervises consultant activities.
  • Collaborate closely with Operations, Engineering, Quality, Health & Safety, Legal, and Supply Chain teams.
Risk Management & Incident Response
  • Oversee environmental incident investigations.
  • Communicate and gain support for Corrective Actions.
  • Track Action Item progress to completion.
  • Proactively Identify and monitor emerging environmental issues.
  • Summarize and communicate potential applicability and impacts to the business.
  • Recommend solutions, gain support for Action Plans.
  • Track progress to completion to ensure compliance with new regulations.
