Role SummaryQualified individuals will be based in Birmingham, AL. Responsibilities include assessing aircraft damage and drafting repair procedures for structural and composite components, utilizing advanced metalworking practices to form, cut, bend, and fasten new or repaired parts to damaged structures. Must be proficient in close tolerance drilling/reaming for installation of high‑strength fasteners and skilled in powered and non‑powered metalworking tooling and equipment.
EssentialFunctions
- Inspect and assess damage to aircraft structural components and formulate proper repair/replacement procedures.
- Remove and install close tolerance, high‑strength fasteners in major aircraft structural components.
- Design structural repair, modification, and corrosion protection treatments with respect to original strength, weight, and contour to maintain structural integrity.
- Perform post‑repair flight control weight and balance functions and control surface rigging per designated technical orders.
- Inspect components/repairs for structural serviceability per specifications and technical publications.
- Manufacture/use jigs, fixtures, forms, and molds to fabricate repair or replacement parts.
- Use advanced metalworking practices, equipment, and tools to form, cut, bend, and fasten replacement or repair parts to damaged structures and components.
- Able to train in shop drawing and depot‑level metal layout techniques; shop mathematics; corrosion identification, removal, repair, and prevention; cleaning of metals; application of protective coatings and markings.
- Recommend methods to improve equipment performance and maintenance procedures.
- Use automated maintenance systems: input, validate, and analyze data processed to automated systems; inspect, clear, and close out completed maintenance discrepancies.
- Document maintenance per Quality Assurance (QA) and regulatory requirements.
- Store, handle, and dispose of hazardous waste and materials per environmental standards.
- Operate and maintain related aircraft support equipment (SE).
- Use automated maintenance systems to monitor maintenance trends, analyze equipment requirements, maintain equipment records, document maintenance actions, and track time change database.
- Perform regular Foreign Object Damage (FOD) walks.
- Maintain strict tool control procedures and inventory; report and replace missing or worn tools.
- Comply with safety rules and report safety violations to supervisor.
- Enter maintenance records and verify work performed satisfactorily.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities- Highly skilled in depot‑level processes for replacement of major structural components.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, technical documentation, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Strong decision analysis, problem‑solving, and communication skills.
- Highly knowledgeable of fixed‑wing aircraft construction features, aerospace materials, and safe handling of hazardous chemicals.
- Extensive knowledge of fabrication and depot repair/replacement of metal, tubing, cable, plastic, fiberglass, bonded honeycomb, and composite components.
- Intermediate computer skills with Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn additional software.
- Ability to use respirator or breathing equipment during duties.
- Accurate data entry into databases and report writing.
- Effective interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
- Proficient use of general office equipment.
- Ability to follow processes, learn corporate policies, and perform basic mathematics.
- High degree of self‑motivation and independent work capability.
- Ability to multi‑task.
