Job SummaryWe are seeking an Electrical/I&C Design Engineer to join the Fleet Central Design Organization
. This team is responsible for producing capital project designs and providing technical oversight of engineering work performed in-house, by Architect Engineers (AEs), or other outside resources.
The ideal candidate will have experience in electrical or digital/I&C engineering, design modifications, and supporting large capital projects in a nuclear power plant environment. This role is based in Birmingham, AL with up to 25% travel to other fleet sites across GA and AL.
Key Responsibilities- Develop engineering analyses to support electrical and I&C design solutions.
- Prepare equipment and system specifications, perform bid evaluations, and review vendor submittals.
- Create design change packages to support fleet-wide and site-specific capital projects.
- Support design implementation and provide troubleshooting for emergent equipment issues.
- Provide oversight of power system analysis products and ensure proper application at sites.
- Manage and control I&C plant design software and related products.
- Monitor new technology for application into fleet strategic planning.
- Promote standard approaches and innovation in electrical/I&C design across the fleet.
- Participate in industry initiatives to support and maintain design/analysis methodologies.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university (required).
- Minimum of 3 years of electrical or digital/I&C engineering experience (preferred).
- Experience with design modifications in commercial nuclear power (preferred).
- Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred but not required.
- Understanding of power flow concepts, distribution system impacts, motor-starting, short-circuit, and dynamic response analysis (ETAP experience preferred).
- Knowledge of network infrastructure, operating systems, databases, and industrial control system networks (ICS, PLC, DPC, SCADA).
- Ability to lead small teams and initiatives effectively.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Positive, solution-oriented team player with adaptability to changing priorities.
