The Birmingham Zoo is an independent, nonprofit, and AZA-accredited organization dedicated to inspiring passion for conserving the natural world. The zoo is home to diverse animal species, including lions, giraffes, sea lions, jaguars, African elephants, and many endangered animals from six continents. Through its exhibits and educational programs, the Birmingham Zoo engages visitors to foster awareness and appreciation for wildlife conservation efforts.
Located in Birmingham, AL, it serves as a regional attraction for both education and entertainment.
This is a part‑time, on‑site role in Birmingham, AL for a Seasonal Camp Educator. Responsibilities include planning and delivering educational lessons, facilitating engaging camp activities, and fostering a fun and safe learning environment for children. The Seasonal Camp Educator will also assist with training and supervising campers, ensuring that they have a positive and educational experience. Collaboration with other educators and zoo staff is an integral part of the role.
Qualifications- Experience with Lesson Planning and Teaching
- Knowledge of Education and Training methods
- Strong Communication skills to effectively interact with children, staff, and parents
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
- Enthusiasm for wildlife and conservation education
- Prior experience in environmental education, camp programs, or a similar role preferred
- Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays, as needed
- High school diploma or equivalent required; some college coursework in education or a related field is a plus
