Position SummaryProvide academic instruction to students at the college level in theory and practice; give an overview of the different types of music, music history, and significant music time periods; and include instruction on some musical instruments and choral direction.
Salary Schedule Placement: Placement on Salary Schedule D1 ($46,) based on education and experience. Summer appointments are based on enrollment - Salary Schedule D1 ($14,) based on education and experience. Annual Potential Salary including Summer Appointment ($60,)
Essential Duties And Responsibilities- Teach 30-35 contact hours or 15-16 credit hours per semester and/or the equivalent in non-credit hours or a combination of the credit and non-credit course offerings.
- Available to teach day, night, and weekend classes, and training opportunities if necessary.
- Maintain regular and consistent attendance at work and record/maintain student attendance records.
- Prepare and maintain current course syllabus according to the College’s guidelines.
- Develop and implement a program of instruction that meets the individual needs, interests and abilities of students, consistent with local and state plans of study established curriculum.
- Plan and employ a variety of appropriate instructional/learning strategies and activities compatible with the physical facility and the needs and abilities of the students.
- Plan and implement lessons based on curriculum objectives and the needs and abilities of students.
- When teaching online, maintain an active presence in the online environment, participate in discussion boards, and follow all prescribed eCollege guidelines and practices as outlined in the eCollege Faculty Manual.
- Actively participate and work with other school personnel in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials to provide students with optimal learning opportunities.
- Possess knowledge of content, curriculum, methods, materials, and equipment of instructional specialty.
- Review curriculum and make routine adjustments in both ground and online courses.
- Be skilled and effective in oral and written communication and in choral performances and production.
- Work to diffuse conflict and mediate problems with students and colleagues.
- Maintain musical resources, instruments, equipment, and supplies.
- Prepare program course offerings for each semester and term.
- Develop and evaluate Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) for instructional specialty.
- Collaborate with other unit programs to develop and implement divisional goals.
- Know the institution’s program of studies related to mission, goals, and organization.
- Recruit students into the program, advise them through completion, and recruit for the College’s choral groups.
- Serve on divisional, institutional, and state-wide committees as appointed.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned by the appropriate administrator.
- Work with the college ADA coordinator to provide appropriate accommodations for identified students.
- Attend assigned divisional, department, and college meetings.
- Review and modify curriculum for both ground and distance education courses.
- Develop and implement a program of instruction that meets shared department goals and objectives outlined for the course.
- Use Blackboard regularly to augment instruction by uploading the syllabus, homework assignments, supplemental videos, lecture presentations, handouts, assignments, materials and recorded lectures (where applicable).
- Participate on committees and engage in college-wide activities to promote the missions of the institution.
- Agree to participate in required college events such as graduation, honors day programs, and other assigned events.
- Maintain a neat, appropriate and professional appearance at all times.
- Adhere to all school and/or department policies and respond to all administrative requests in a timely professional manner.
- Assist every student in developing their academic abilities to their greatest capacity.
