Position Summary

Lawson State Community College is accepting applications for part-time/adjunct faculty for all subjects. This is an applicant pool. Individuals will be hired as needed.

Note:

Submitted applications will remain on file for 36 months.

Terms of Employment

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Employed on an “As Needed” basis; local salary schedule in accordance to documented academic credentials and/or educational experiences, and not to exceed nine credit hours per semester. All exceptions must be approved by the Vice President for Instruction.

Salary:
Local Salary Schedule (based on credentials and area of assignment)
Academic Adjuncts (3 hrs.) – MS/MA $1683 per 3 credit course;
Academic Adjuncts (3 hrs.) – PhD./Ed.D. $1836 per 3 credit course.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

A. Instruction
  • 1. Adhere to all requirements outlined and published regarding the learning management system (Black Board), i.e., posting course syllabi, announcements, calendars, presentations, assignments with due date, and test dates.
  • 2. Adhere to and teach from current job‑relevant course syllabi and training plan.
  • 3. Supplement lectures and demonstrations with multimedia materials.
  • 4. Demonstrate to students the safe use of each piece of equipment used in training plan.
  • 5. Include safety, health, and fire prevention as integral part of instruction.
  • 6. Maintain an environment that is conducive to learning.
  • 7. Supervise students and maintain discipline in class, lab, and shop.
  • 8. Develop laboratory projects that will enable students to relate theory to practical application through laboratory assignments.
  • 9. Distribute to students at beginning of each term a current syllabus containing course objectives, course outline, methods of evaluation, schedule of activities, lab/shop rules and regulations, and course requirements such as the necessary books, student supplies, and equipment that a student will need to participate in training.
  • 10. Administer written and performance examinations systematically to determine student’s progress and administer final written and performance examination.
  • 11. Implement system of recording student progress (i.e., progress charts, Black Board/equivalent learning management system).
  • 12. Teach and demand good work habits from students.
  • 13. Submit to department chairperson and supervising administrators a plan to be followed during absence.
  • 14. Communicate student progress to students and appropriate personnel in accordance to established guidelines.
  • 15. Supervise students in cooperative educational settings (when applicable).
  • 16. Respond to student requests in a timely manner, usually within 24 to 48 hours.
  • 17. Follow all regulations regarding online instructions (when applicable).
  • 18. Ability to facilitate instructional methodologies in respect to programs requiring industry chemicals/products to administer instruction.
B. Recordkeeping
  • 1. Maintain permanent roll and accurate attendance of students.
  • 2. Submit attendance reports as required on time.
  • 3. Follow the state and institution's adopted grading system.
  • 4. Submit grades each term for each student by due date.
  • 5. Submit forms to registrar when changes occur in students' status.
  • 6. Assist students in submitting the required documents for graduation.
C. Enforcement of College Policies
  • 1. Participate in departmental orientation.
  • 2. Communicate to students announcements as directed from administration.
  • 3. Follow institutional and System policies, procedures and guidelines.
  • 4. Adhere to FERPA Regulations and report any known violations.
  • 5. Adhere ADA Accommodation requirements when presented official documentation.
Other Duties and Responsibilities
  • 1. Participate in faculty discussion about curriculum, teaching and learning techniques, and teaching materials.
  • 2. Work in accordance to the institution's mission, goals, and vision.
  • 3. Work to achieve success in accomplishing the institutional goals.
  • 4. Work within the system in a resourceful manner to accomplish reasonable work goals; show flexibility in response to process change and adapt to and accommodate new methods and procedures.
