Adjunct Spanish Instructor – Lawson State Community College Position Summary

Lawson State Community College is accepting applications for a part‑time/adjunct faculty member for the Spanish language program. Applicants will be hired as needed and applications will remain in file for 36 months.

Terms of Employment

As‑needed basis; local salary schedule in accordance with documented academic credentials; not to exceed nine credit hours per semester. All exceptions must be approved by the Vice President for Instruction.

Salary

Academic Adjuncts (3 hrs.) – MS/MA: $1,683 per 3‑credit course
Academic Adjuncts (3 hrs.) – PhD./Ed.D.: $1,836 per 3‑credit course

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Prepare and deliver instruction for credited academic and technical courses at the freshmen and sophomore levels.
  • Adhere to all requirements regarding the Blackboard learning management system, including posting syllabi, announcements, calendars, presentations, assignments, and test dates.
  • Teach from current job‑relevant course syllabi and training plans.
  • Supplement lectures with multimedia materials and demonstrate the safe use of all equipment used in the training plan.
  • Include safety, health, and fire prevention as an integral part of instruction.
  • Maintain an environment conducive to learning.
  • Supervise students and maintain discipline in class, lab, and shop.
  • Develop laboratory projects that enable students to relate theory to practical application.
  • Distribute a current syllabus at the beginning of each term containing objectives, outline, evaluation methods, schedule, rules, regulations, and required materials.
  • Administer written and performance examinations systematically to assess student progress.
  • Implement a system of recording student progress (e.g., progress charts, Blackboard).
  • Teach and demand good work habits from students.
  • Provide a plan for coverage during absences and communicate student progress to appropriate personnel.
  • Respond to student requests within 24–48 hours.
  • Follow all regulations regarding online instruction when applicable.
  • Facilitate instructional methodologies for programs requiring industry chemicals/products.
Recordkeeping
  • Maintain permanent rolls and accurate attendance records.
  • Submit attendance reports on time.
  • Follow the state and institution’s adopted grading system.
  • Submit grades each term by the required due date.
  • Submit forms to the registrar when student status changes.
  • Assist students in submitting required documents for graduation.
Enforcement of College Policies
  • Participate in departmental orientation.
  • Communicate announcements as directed by administration.
  • Follow institutional and system policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Adhere to FERPA regulations and report any known violations.
  • Adhere to ADA accommodation requirements when documentation is provided.
Qualifications
  • Academic Division:
    Language, Health & Physical Education/Science, Math, Social Science, Business.
  • Hold a minimum of a Master’s degree (including 18 graduate semester hours / 27 graduate quarter hours) in the teaching discipline.
