Responsibilities
Apply core values and theories relevant to academic advising and adapt approaches to meet the needs of a diverse student population; implement projects to achieve specific academic advising outcomes, equitable and inclusive strategies, and ethical guidelines outlined by the university and NACADA.Initiate career conversations with students and apply legal guidelines, privacy regulations such as FERPA; articulate intent of general education, school/college, and program requirements; create education plans and track progress toward graduation requirements.Provide a holistic approach to advising that supports the unit vision and mission; implement equitable strategies; engage in individual assessment and development of self and advising practice; facilitate student appointments; develop oral and written communication skills.Lead group presentations and further develop communication skills, understanding of policies and procedures; provide service to UAB and department communities such as the Council of Academic Advisors committee.Contact unregistered students for outreach and retention; coordinate support services; assist with student recruitment, orientation, and retention; maintain accurate student records; prepare reports regarding student status; process applications for degrees.Identify areas of focus and expertise; schedule professional development; participate in professional associations; propose or present at conferences or campus events.Perform other duties as assigned.Salary Pay Range
$43,890 – $57,055
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Counseling, Education, or a related field.
- Two (2) years of related experience; work experience may not substitute for the education requirement.
